Just like London-based clothing brand YMC (You Must Create), we love hardy workwear. Teaming up for this collection it made sense to keep things practical and let YMC inject their idiosyncratic style into the mix. The result – a limited-edition collection of workwear and accessories for the urban gardener – marries surprising details with the love for craftsmanship that we both share. Designed to withstand plenty of time outdoors, whether moving through the city or green spaces, and look really good in the process.

YMC X Niwaki Garden Jacket
Inspired by YMC’s iconic Bonehead Jacket – named after Oasis rhythm guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs and sported by Liam Gallagher on their reunion tour – this unisex slate grey Garden Jacket combines ’90s style with the practical details needed for a drizzly day in the garden (or an open-air concert): a water-repellent finish, spacious capped hood, elasticated cuffs and adjustable drawstrings.
Then there are the pockets – four of them, in fact. Two roomy lower pockets take care of gloves, seed packets and spare bits of string, while two longer pockets are designed to keep sheathed secateurs or snips close to hand – each finished with a closable flap to help stop things going astray.
YMC x Niwaki Mens Suedehead Jumper & YMC x Niwaki Womens Jets Jumper
YMC’s signature Suedehead and Jets Jumpers bring a softer side to the collection, both knitted in Scotland from ultra-soft brushed lambswool with a clean, seam-free construction. If there’s a more practical fabric we’ve yet to find it – warm, breathable, naturally anti-bacterial and long-lasting. The Men’s Suedehead has a relaxed fit with a little more length through the body, while the Women’s Jets keeps the same roomy feel in a slightly shorter shape. Both are finished with ribbed neck, cuffs and hem, and come in ‘pine shadow’ – reminiscent of mossy forest floors – or bright ‘ballerina pink’.
YMC x Niwaki Single Holster, Sling Belt, Kantan Bag & Higurashi Secateurs
Alongside the clothing comes a handful of practical garden essentials: a YMC x Niwaki Single Leather Holster and Sling Belt in coordinating ecru leather to keep tools close at hand; a large, bucket-style Kantan Bag with a PVC-lined base; and, bringing it all together, a pair of hand-forged Higurashi Secateurs – as useful for everyday pruning as they are for taming houseplants and preparing indoor flower arrangements.
