An excellent introduction to the simplicity, beauty and practicality of Japanese carbon steel garden tools, this gift set arrives in a paulownia box, wrapped in hand-dyed tenugui.
Sentei Scissors: Sharp, precise blades made from KA-70 carbon steel, with elegant round handles for a comfortable grip. Suitable for cut flowers, deadheading, and light pruning – including woody stems (up to a pencil width).
Sentei Secateurs: Traditional drop forged carbon steel secateurs with a soft spring action and simple lock catch. Bypass, KA-70 carbon steel blades make quick work of softwood and light branches (up to 07mm). Great for tackling substantial jobs and delicate tasks that require clean, precise cuts.
Best usage
Recommended grip for this style of Japanese scissor: keep your index finger on the top edge and only curl the remaining three fingers through the handle.
Carbon steel requires a little extra care, so this is a good opportunity to brush up on your maintenance skills.
Remove any rust and sap build-up with the Niwaki Clean Mate, and treat the blades with Camellia Oil for ongoing protection. Sharpen with a Niwaki #1000 Sharpening Stone to maintain a keen edge.
