Drop-forged in Yamagata, these pruners offer a beautifully refined balance and a smooth, razor-sharp cut.
A special part of the Tobisho x Niwaki collection, the SR-1 was one of the first tools Niwaki imported as Tobisho’s premium supplier. The partnership began in 2006, when Jake first visited Tobisho and met the owner, Yasuhito Tobitsuka. Today, Yasuhito’s son Daiki runs the family business, and this collaboration celebrates their shared friendship and respect.
Forged from a single piece of top-quality steel – from blade to handle – these pruners combine the shape of the traditional A-type style with modern production techniques. The resulting strength and balance make them comfortable for prolonged, everyday use. The face of the cutting blade has also been slightly hollowed to reduce friction, resulting in a cleaner, more efficient cutting action.
The steel holds its edge exceptionally well, but shouldn’t be used for hacking – or opening paint tins!

- Sharpen with a Niwaki #1000 grit stone
- Protect with Niwaki Camellia Oil
