Sasuke Shears

Karikomibasami

Avert your eyes from the price tag for a second, and understand this: Yasuhiro Hirakawa (5th generation Sasuke) is unique. He (claims to be) the only blacksmith in Japan making garden scissors entirely by hand, and entirely by himself using traditional forging methods. He is based in Sakai, renowned centre of all things sharp and shiny, and produces some of the most remarkable, beautiful - and expensive - tools imaginable.

These karikomi shears might, in fact, be overdoing it a bit, but if you are seeking the very finest shears imaginable, read on. Oak (Quercus myrsinifolia) handles with axe-like ends, relatively short 7" (18cm) blades hand forged rivets - not much else really. The blades cross over at the tip, ensuring a true cut right through the length of the blade, and allowing for a life time of sharpening. Total length (25 1/2") 65 cm.
